Imagine a moment when you are sitting quietly on a riverbank, the gentle sound of flowing water filling your ears. You are not thinking about yourself or your worries; instead, you are simply aware. The warmth of the sun touches your skin, the breeze brushes your face, and the distant call of a seagull blends seamlessly with the rustling leaves.
Such moments are not rare or mystical; they are universal and natural. Everyone has had glimpses of this pure awareness, whether while walking on the beach, immersed in music, or during the climax of an intense activity. The difference is that meditation helps you to increase these moments, to live more and more in the flow rather than in the fragmented chatter of the mind.
When you meditate, you learn to observe your thoughts as leaves floating down a stream, acknowledging them without clinging. This practice opens the door to flow. You begin to see that the self you identify with—the constant 'I' in your mind—is a construct, a room made of thoughts. And when you step out of that room, you experience the spaciousness of pure being.
Flow moments bring with them peace, joy, and a lightness of being. They remind us that life is not about battling internal conflicts or chasing after fleeting pleasures. Instead, it is about surrendering to the present and becoming part of the universe's continuous dance.
Yet, as soon as we glimpse this state, we often retreat, frightened by the loss of familiar identity. We run back into the room of ego, closing the door behind us. But the invitation remains: to open that door and dwell in the flow, to awaken.
In this first step, you begin to recognize that meditation is not about achieving something new but about remembering what you already are—pure awareness flowing freely. This insight sets the foundation for all that follows.
As we move forward, we will explore how the ego traps us in thought prisons and how meditation offers a path to freedom. Let us journey deeper into understanding the mind's nature and the liberation that awaits beyond it.
