Imagine a quiet New Year's Eve, a gentle fire burning, a woman sitting comfortably with her partner, both scribbling down goals and desires on a poster board. The scene is warm, inviting, filled with hopes and plans. But something shifts when, instead of focusing solely on external achievements, they start to ask themselves a simple yet profound question: 'How do I want to feel?'
Desire, often misunderstood as mere wanting or craving, is actually the most powerful creative force in the universe. It is not about the things we chase on the surface but the feelings we yearn to embody. At its core, desire is a feeling—an emotional state that pulls us forward, fuels our courage, and lights the path toward our true selves.
Consider how every choice we make, from the food we eat to the people we surround ourselves with, is driven by a desire to feel a certain way. This could be freedom, love, security, adventure, or peace. Even negative emotions serve as signals, guiding us back toward alignment when we stray.
Feelings possess a magnetic quality. Love attracts love, generosity invites generosity, and anger often breeds more anger if left unchecked. This magnetic pull means that by consciously choosing the feelings we cultivate, we influence the reality we experience.
One vivid example is a woman who, feeling financially strained, sat in a high-end furniture store and allowed herself to feel what affluence meant to her—not by buying, but by simply experiencing the sensation of sitting on a luxurious sofa. This small act shifted her mindset, inspiring her to take steps toward financial abundance.
However, desire is not without its complexities. The art lies in wanting deeply yet without clinging or desperation. This balance between fierce longing and gentle surrender prevents us from becoming trapped in frustration or neurotic patterns.
As this journey begins, remember: your feelings are not facts about the world but about your personal experience of it. They are your internal compass, guiding you home to yourself.
Now, with this understanding of desire as the heart of creation, let us move into how to translate these feelings into intentions and goals that nourish the soul rather than drain it.
